Reoccurring SMS Marketing

Overview:
We currently use Square Marketing’s recurring email feature in conjunction with smart groups to automate customer communication. For example, when a customer joins a smart group based on a promotion like "Hospitality Night," we can automatically send a welcome email or coupon. This process is automated based on the customer’s last purchase time frame, item purchased, etc., via a daily email campaign.

Feature Request:
We would like to see similar functionality for SMS. Specifically, the ability to set up recurring SMS messages based on criteria defined by smart groups, purchase behavior, or customer interactions. This would allow businesses to offer automated SMS communications (like welcome messages or special offers) in the same way that email communications are currently automated in Square Marketing. (Note that email campaigns already have reoccurring function) 

Why this is important:
SMS is an increasingly important channel for customer communication, and automating these messages would enable businesses to engage customers in a more timely and personalized way. The ability to tie SMS campaigns to customer behavior—just as we do with emails—would enhance our customer experience, improve engagement, and streamline communication efforts.

Current Limitation:
We understand that SMS automation is available within Square Marketing, but it is currently very limited in scope, as it only works with predefined templates and triggers set by Square. There is no ability to create custom triggers or automation based on specific customer behaviors or smart group membership, which restricts the flexibility and potential of SMS campaigns.

Suggested Enhancement:

• Allow businesses to set up recurring SMS campaigns tied to smart groups, customer behavior, or last purchase data.
• Enable automated messages based on customer attributes or purchase history, similar to how email automation currently works.
• Provide the option to customize timing, frequency, and triggers for SMS delivery.

We believe this feature would greatly enhance Square Marketing’s value for businesses that use SMS as a critical component of their marketing strategy.
