Refund sales tax

Refund sales tax

I have customers that place orders online and they have tax exempt status.   I need to be able to refund just the sales tax charged.

I know I can issue a partial refund,  but that refund comes out of my profit and does not change the amount of tax going to the government.

Hi Dmoeller,

This topic has been discussed before and it's even been submitted as a Feature Request however, it appears to date, other than doing a "partial refund", there's no options to specifically refund Sales Tax.  At least this is what I've found - see this past Community thread.  There are some work arounds however like the one suggested in that past Community Thread, it's more work on your end.  Another thought is to create an order form for your Tax Exempt customers - once you receive the order, you would send an invoice for the exact amount.  That may be an easier solution - check out JotForm - they have tons of pre-made templates and you can customize them.  Just something to tinker with and you can link your JotForm Forms to Square for payment processing.

There is already a toggle to allow a customer to marked as tax exempt. It is ridiculous that that toggle essentially does nothing. I would think it is a simple If/Then - If a customer is identified as tax exempt, Square should not charge the tax. This would go a long way for those of us who are scaling to add wholesale to our repertoire.

I never thought I'd be a sexy goat lady. And yet, here I am.

We have a similar issue. We rang up the wrong item, which was at a higher price. We need to do a partial refund (customer is gone and we do not have access to their credit card number) and that refund also needs to include sales tax. Is there a way of doing that?
