Nested Category Inheritance

It would be great if nested categories inherited the parent categories. We sell wine. We have a lot of nested categories like Wine > France > Sancerre > White. It would be great if I could just select the white category inside of Sancerre and have it also inherit all of the other categories as well (Sancerre, France, Wine, etc.) Then you could have the reporting category set to the top most one, Wine. This would seriously streamline the categories system. The way it is now is kinda sloppy.

Further to this, my thoughts here: https://community.squareup.com/t5/Feature-Requests/Drill-down-reporting-automatic-Category-Rollups-a...

I agree that the current approach is messy, and you end up with some items where they are 'just' in their subcategory (or sub-subcategory), and others where they are in the subcat plus all the parent categories.

I'm not even entirely sure on the purpose of being able to have an item that is in a subcategory but not its parent.

It's also really messy on import/export and bulk product handling. You end up with something like this in the cell:

Food & Drinks > Hot Drinks > Coffee, Food & Drinks > Hot Drinks, Food & Drinks

This is what you have to do to ensure the product is in all the category tiers, whereas it would be much simpler if:

Food & Drinks > Hot Drinks > Coffee

...was all that was needed to create a product that appeared under 'Coffee', but also under 'Hot Drinks', and 'Food & Drinks'.
