Gift Card / Discounts and Tipping

Hello - 

We are looking to have an option to calculate the tip prior to a gift card being redeemed or a discount being calculated.  

Currently, when a customer uses a gift card, the tip screen (defaulted to certain percentages or custom) is calculating the percentages based on the total after gift card redemption.  

The same is true for a discount.  Once the discount has been applied to the check, the tip calculation is based on the total after discount.  

There is an option, in setting up the handheld device to calculate tip before or after taxes - so it seems the coding structure is there.  

Is there not a way for the engineers to add the options to: 

Calculate tip BEFORE Gift Card Redemption? 

Calculate tip BEFORE discount? 

I have attached a recent transaction that shows what happens.

In this instance, the tab was $71.69.  

Customer used a $50 Gift Card.  

Remaining balance was $21.69 which the customer chose 22% tip, leaving a $4.77.

Server got a $4.77 tip for a $71.69 tab.

This flexibility is sorely needed and has been asked for numerous times over my 10+ years with Square.  Many sellers need the option of having tip suggestions being calculated THEIR way.  And it's not just tips/discounts.  Some sellers want tips to be calculated on after-tax amounts, some don't.  What is needed is a flexible way to specify what is and is not included in the amount used to calculate tip suggestions.

I know I've previously asked for this, so I fully support this request! A similar calculation is already a configurable option when it comes to Commissions: we can choose to exclude Discounts, Service Costs, Taxes, and/or Processing Fees.
