Feature Request: Allow merchants to enrol customers into Square Loyalty when creating a customer pro

As a mobile coffee business, we ask every new customer for their first name and mobile number before taking payment. We also explain our loyalty program and obtain their verbal consent to join.

Despite this, Square requires the customer to enter their mobile number again on the loyalty enrolment screen. By this point, many customers have already tapped their card and walked away, so they never complete the enrolment. This creates unnecessary friction and results in lower loyalty adoption.

I’d love the option to enable a setting such as:

“Automatically enrol customers into Square Loyalty when a merchant creates a customer profile and confirms customer consent.”

This could include a simple checkbox when adding a customer, for example:
☐ Customer has agreed to join the Square Loyalty program.

The customer would still receive any required SMS confirmation or welcome message, but merchants wouldn’t have to ask for the same phone number twice.

This would be particularly valuable for:

  • Coffee carts and food trucks
  • Market stalls
  • Cafés with high transaction volume
  • Hospitality businesses with fast-moving queues
  • Events where customers often walk away immediately after paying

This feature would significantly improve the checkout experience, increase loyalty enrolments, reduce abandoned sign-ups, and remove a repetitive step that provides little additional value when consent has already been obtained.

I’d also suggest making this an optional account setting so businesses that prefer the current workflow can continue using it.
