I'd like to test the function of my set up of items, variations, modifiers, discounts, coupons, etc. on the POS without running charges. It would be extremely valuable to have an option to run a demo/practice/development mode.
Your original post has merit as a demo mode would be great - that would involve having test credit cards too which currently has been suggested before. For example, PayPal has something called a Sandbox - it's a totally different site whereas one can test their "website code" and use test credit cards. I have in the past used it before going live. I believe that Square has a Sandbox type environment for Developers to test API's etc., however, that's a bit beyond my skill set.
As for the POS Apps, that's a different area - currently there's no test credit cards nor a way to demo what you have in mind. For now, you may just have to use real info for testing which would allow you to see how the process works. The good news is, you can run a transaction (let's say for $1.00, complete the process and then do a Refund), doing so will allow you to go through the complete process - moving forward, you'll see and understand from the customer's perspective the entire process.

If you know of any fellow Seller Community members who would like to see this built out as well, feel free to tag them in your post so they can share their thoughts as well!
