Decimals in purchase order for weight based products

Reopening this request.  This is something I have noticed others responding to as well with a need and it is not a large development effort (I used to be in software development myself).

We sell cheeses and receive cheeses in Lbs but cannot use the PO feature as the cheeses are received in decimals of lbs.  E.g. we may order 5 lbs but receive 4.98lbs or 5.45lbs and are charged based on the exact weight.

We currently cannot use the PO feature as it only allows full numbers and does not recognize items stocked in lbs ability to have decimals.  We need to go into each item to receive them which is time-consuming and error-prone.

You have most of the development already there since you are able to manually receive stock into decimals, all that needs to be done is have the PO read the unit of measure of the items.

The request you merged this one with is NOT the same thing.  They are asking for additional decimals in the cost.  I am asking to CREATE and RECEIVE purchase orders with decimals in the quantity.

The items have been set up in LBS (pounds) and in the item records we can have decimals and manually receive in decimals.  This is a very time-consuming effort.  The purchase orders ONLY allow round quantities and do not seem to take the unit of measure of the item master into consideration.

I kindly ask you to reopen this request and add it to the development list.  All I am asking is that the purchase orders use the unit of measure and the (precision = decimals) of the item.  I.e. if the item is set to inventory in EA then the PO can use round numbers, however, if the item is set to inventory in LB (with .000 precision = decimals) then allow the PO to be created/received with the same level of precision.

Others who receive and sell items by weight or volume will have the same issues and requirements.

How is it possible that we are unable to order via decimals in square for retail?

I was told that this would be part of an update that was scheduled for late 2023.  Obviously it either was dropped or delayed.  I talked with the development team mid summer 2023.  

Anyone have any comments on this???

I agree, I have been trying to get them to resolve this for a few years, I do not know what the difficulty could be??

Maybe they have bigger fish to fry??

Hello! I've been selling by weight for 4+ years, but just recently in 2024 started using the purchase order tool in Square. Please add decimal quantities to the purchase orders! This should be worked on before constant changes to the POS UI as it adds inaccuracies in our unit cost and inventory tracking.
