Cash Rounding

Cash Rounding

People have been asking for the ability to round up hundreds of times, and Square indicates they can't do it, but in Canada, they got rid of the Penny years ago, and Square has a Cash Rounding feature already built into doing this.

It makes no sense that you can't add a feature to the US version allowing a business to round up or down cash sales automatically. Ideally, you could have user-selectable options for rounding - up only or up or down - plus amount to round to 0.05 or 0.10 or 0.25 or $1 rounding. Then, please create an account where this money could be tracked so users could apply it to a charity or an employee fund.

At the very least, let customers in the US turn on the Cash Rounding feature you've already built for Canada.

See this recent article on the Penny - if Square were to make a big announcement about getting rid of the penny, it might move the issue forward. Having my staff have to deal with pennies is a waste of time - please help us get rid of them.

We need this as well.  Our bank will no longer give us pennies in our change requests.

We are ready to ditch the pennies also

Completely agree with the other posters, this is needed ASAP and should already be available.  Square is so often behind the times it's embarrassing.

The production of new pennies for general circulation in the U.S. has been halted, with the last penny officially minted on November 12, 2025.

However, this does not mean pennies will immediately become unavailable or worthless:

Legal Tender: Existing pennies will remain legal tender and can still be used for retail transactions indefinitely. There are billions of pennies still in circulation.

Gradual Decline: While no new pennies are being produced for general use (except for collectors), their numbers will only decline gradually as they are lost or damaged.

Rounding: In the absence of new pennies, businesses handling cash transactions are expected to begin rounding totals to the nearest five cents (the nearest nickel), which is a common practice in other countries that have eliminated their lowest-denomination coins.

In summary, new pennies are no longer being created as of November 2025, but the pennies you have now will remain available and valid to spend for the foreseeable future.

Correct pennies are still valid. But all banks near us have stopped giving them out.  We have 0 pennies in our store. This is urgent and we are in need of a new feature within Square to account for rounding and for our cashier's to give easily give correct rounded change.

"However, this does not mean pennies will immediately become unavailable or worthless"

Except multiple people in this thread indicated that they CANNOT get pennies from their banks anymore, and others have indicated banks will not accept pennies for deposits anymore. While yes, they are still legal tender and will still be used for a while, we need a solution for when we have handed out our pennies and cannot replenish.

This is an accounting and tax nightmare since we cannot properly track the change coming and going, which can and will add up the longer this goes without a solution. Especially when that solution already exists for Canada - it just needs implemented for US Square accounts.

I agree,  banks should still accept pennies as legal tender.  The best longterm solution would be for Square to implement rounding.

Guyyys!

Looks like they started the rounding today!! Yay Square!

@Square. Does this have enough traction yet for the developers to give us something?  I'd like to see the options be.... Cash rounding: To the nearest, up, or down; Denominations $.05, $.10, $.25

@@Vibe how is it enabled? What did you have to do?
