Can you please let us apply service fees automatically on Online orders? It will be extremely helpful and I believe all your Australian customers will dearly love this function.
I’m running a restaurant in Australia and recently upgraded to Square Plus specifically to use the online ordering system. However, I was very disappointed to find that there is no option to automatically apply surcharges for:
Credit card processing fees
Weekend service charges
Public holiday surcharges
It is legally allowed as long as clearly disclosed.
While surcharging is not mandatory, it is a standard practice across the Australian hospitality industry due to high card fees and weekend/public holiday wage rates.
Most hospitality venues here rely on automatic surcharge settings through their POS or online ordering platforms to remain profitable and compliant.
Without this function, we are forced to either:
Lose profit by absorbing fees ourselves, or
Manually increase all prices, which is inaccurate and leads to customer confusion.
I strongly urge Square to implement this feature urgently. Otherwise, like many others, I will need to move to a different platform that supports it.
I can't believe people have been asking for the ability to add a surcharge to an online order for many years and Square is so behind the times here. It's not just about credit card compliance and legal issues. There are MANY reasons to add a surcharge (percentage of total purchases) so that customers understand specificall what they are paying for - perhaps the price of fuel has risen $1/gallon in the last 2 weeks and we want to put pressure on the US political system by encouraging people to vote in November? If they could just see that there is a new fuel surcharge, or like the Australians say, that people should have to pay for their take-away containers, Square could keep more customers who might otherwise find a different platform. Pretty frustrating that this has not been addressed after almost 5 years of people asking. Any thoughts on when this feature will be added?
