Amaka.io intentionally break Square to MYOB integration
Hi Community.
Today I received an email from Amaka, and I suppose that you did too if you have found this thread.
"ACTION REQUIRED: Square + MYOB integration"
The version you currently have activated will be discontinued and no longer supported on the 30th of September 2021
I've logged on to check this out, and basically what Amaka have done is to discontinue the free integration, and replace the free version with one that cannot be mapped to existing MYOB income/ liability/ cost/ bank accounts as it always did. It now replaces them with generic Square accounts making the integration entirely useless...
Of course they are doing this because it is possible to get the previous functionality back, by paying USD$17.99 per month, or USD$155.88 per annum. This is pathetic as a standard basic integration that is required for basic accounting.
@Square are you aware of this?
Do you support this?
I suppose that I'm in the market for a new payment platform now; Community, I suggest that you do the same. Providers that go down this path are basically showing signs that they no longer care about their customers, and are all about the bottom line.
Not impressed.

Hey @Adam34,
Thanks for getting in touch and raising this!
To be honest I had not heard about this previously, however I'm making some inquiries and will let you know once I hear back.

Hi @Seamus
This whole thing prompted me to speak to Tyro this morning, who are giving me a great deal (far more cost effective than Square) and don't have integration issues like this, so the "everyday use" of Square within my business as the main transaction processor are now numbered. I'll keep my Square account and reader just in case the need should ever arise for one-offs or more mobile.
Personally, I wasn't willing to be held hostage with no notice like this, and took action immediately (which led me to a competitor that charges significantly lower fees). Perhaps if Square can unravel this madness quickly enough, you won't end up losing a decent chunk of your customers over it.
All the best.
Adam

Hey @Adam34,
I've taken a further look into this for you, and from what I understand the premium version of Amaka's MYOB integration is free for Square sellers, so there should be no change in the functionality you see from this integration. You can read a little more about pricing tiers here, however as this page calls out, you will not need to pay to use the Premium version as a Square seller, which has all the previous features of the free version:
The only thing this doesn't include, is having the multiple business tracker functionality - which I understand was never included in the legacy free version of the integration to begin with.
I hope this helps clear things up! If you'd like to chat further with Amaka, please feel free to book a support session with their team!
I can see that the initial announcement was a little confusing here, however rest assured you should not need to pay a subscription fee to Amaka to continue using the same functionality with MYOB and Square that you have in the past 👍
