How to affect inventory for a product with modifiers

Hello, I sell makeup. I wanted to be able to give a choice of 2 colors for a special price.

I have created a new item called "duo colour" and in the modifiers I have listed all my color's choice.  So far all is good.   However,  after testing , when both colors are chosen the inventory for those 2 colors remains the same as opposed to removing the units from inventory.

Where am i doing the process wrong ?

Agency partner of Square here. As for your scenario, I think using options+variations instead of modifiers is a better approach. I would create an option set named Color, and have color1 and color2 as my option set values. After that, 2 variations would be generated each with its own separated SKU, price, and stock. With this setup, every time a customer purchases color1, only color1's inventory will decrease by 1 unit without affecting color2's inventory. And vise versa when customers purchase color2. 

From my understanding, modifiers are used like add-ons. A good example would be the toppings you add to your desserts such as sprinkles or icing on top. Therefore, using options+variations instead would be the right approach for your case.

Hello Jerry, Thank you for your response and help. Unfortunately I feel that i am close but still not working.

Situtation:

Product name:  DUO MM COLORS- CHOICE OF 2 COLORS price of 32,00$ /un ( instead of 38,00$/un) 

I would like my customer ounce on that product page to be able to select 2 colors ( not less than 2 )  between a choice of 10 existing colors.   Please note that those 10 existing colors all have a seperate SKUs as I am seeling them by the unit as well.

I had created an OPTION SET named  Color &  OPTION SET VALUES Color 1 and Color 2 . 

The issue here is that: 

• I need a way to be able to select Color # 1 with a dropdown  between a choice of 10 colors ( also in a dropdown) AND the same thing with choice of Color #2. 

• Also , I need that these 2 colors choosen will be reduced on the inventory of each color .  At the moment , it is deducting from my product # DUO MM COLORS - This is where it is not working  or I just don't know how to manage this part.

At this time Square is unable to track Modifier Stock so your color choices will not be able to deduct from the inventory at this time. I recommend you submit a Feature Request here. This will help our product team get visibility and track other Sellers with similar interest in your request.
