How is everyone doing after a few weeks of horrible weather?
It's been a crazy winter in Michigan! While there hasn't been much snow, we've faced brutal winds, power outages, and freezing rain. The list could go on! Despite these challenges, we're currently up about 55% this year. With tornadoes, flooding, and ice storms affecting us, how is everyone doing? I see towns and cities burned to the ground, tornadoes taking out whole towns. Just curious and concerned about our fellow small business owners.

We've had a pretty mild winter this year...We've been overly excited for our Alaskan spring and 2 weeks ago Mother Nature said nope, not yet...it snowed all week...

We've been pretty lucky as far as snow goes. It's this wind of 25-40 mph and freezing rain. I hate to say this but I would take a couple of inches only of snow vs this. As far as business goes. I am surprised. The last 2 winters we were up in sales. 2024 up 25/26% also our warmest winter on record and a lot of snowbirds stayed here. This winter is up 55% and not a nice winter at all. We started in October till currently up in sales, the volume of swipes. I'm not complaining about it. Just odd for a Michigan winter. I had to hire 2 more people to pick up the slack. Since mid-late February I have not had a day off and tomorrow will be my first! I hope all is going great with your business.

Sales for us are definitely up but we did relocate in November, so we have access to a new customer base as well as our regular customers.... As of today, our spring has finally kicked in and I'm so enjoying it....

Congratulations on both! Our one week of summer went back to early spring for a week, ugh. It has been so nice to see so many expanding or growing businesses doing great. Wishing you all the best!

I think (know on wood) our Winter is finally done here in NY. Probably the best snow season we have had in the last 4-5 years. Which is great for people who like that type of nonsense, which in turn is good for me seeing how I need them to drop salt on the roads. I'm just looking forward to some warmer weather finally, so the bear inside me can get out of hibernation.

I am tired of the wind and freezing rain! We hit 70 1 day and still 30 mph wind! I guess it's winter to summer for us! How has business been though?

Yeah that wind we get up here is the same, cuts right through me. Business has actually been up , Probably one of the better March and April's I have had in a few years. I expect it to carry through. Surprisingly besides Mid February that is slow, its my Mid June- to end of June that are slowest. Trying to change this year though .

Great to see others picking up business too! Our few weeks are June are so so normally with graduations and weddings. Our snowbirds are home so that helps. I am getting tired and worn out. Thankfully, the 2 new hires were ready to hit the floor and not too much training. Been my roughest week personally but I pushed through it and dealt with personal issues and work was not easy. We all do it though.

We had snow fall the day before yesterday... I thought the week before was going to be it for the season, but apparently not. Like you other northern states, here in MT we don't count on snow being done until the 4th of July... lol. The last number of years, our last snow fall has been the middle of April but we don't see warm temps until end of May. It used to be the norm 25+ years ago that we had 10" of snow on Memorial Day.... thank global warming for that. At least we've seen a teeny bit of spring peeking through. We'll see more next month.

Since this post has been up for a month now - how has your weather changed? We've had typical MT 'spring' weather for the last few weeks. And I say 'spring' lightly! We've had a few beautiful warm and a couple of hot days, but mostly snow and rain. We had snow the day before yesterday. We've had rain nearly non-stop for the last 3 days and very little sunshine. In recent years, it's been very common for us to have our last snowfall in mid-April. To have heavy snow after Mother's Day is not common anymore. But we've already got 16 wildfires around the state, so the moisture is greatly needed. It will be dry and hot before we know it!
What's it like where you are? @tranguyen what's it like over the pond? @ChickenRacer what's it like this time of year for you?
