Find Customer Details for Reconciling accounts

Hi, Just wondering if there is any way of being able to find out a customers name from their transaction after the fact. I have several transactions on my list that I can not match up to customers as the staff member on the day forgot to add a transaction reference for use when reconciling.  Is there some way of retrieving at least the surname that is associated with a card payment so that I can tell who the payment was from?

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear you're having trouble matching transactions with customer info!

 

You'd only be able to do this if you used Square's Customer Directory to tie the customer to the transaction in the first place - when you take a payment our system doesn't actually record the customer's personal details, only transaction information (eg price, items, card type, last 4 digits of credit card). While this doesn't help your current situation, it might be worth using the Customer Directory feature in the future and training your staff in doing this in addition to manually recording info, as a fail safe.
