Bulk listing items using variants

Dear Square forum,

I am only selling one item in my Square store, for example, steak. The price is base on the weight of the steak multiplies the price per/kg.

I am thinking to list just one item, called Steak. All the steak stocks will be listed under this one item as variants, using different weight. When the customer purchase this item, they will select the drop down to see different sizes as variants.

Is there a way to bulk update my inventory, just providing different steaks weight in the spread sheet. Once it is uploaded, it will automatically produce the price for me?

Please advise how can I do that?

Hey @wangjueliang,

This is doable, however only by round numbered kilos via Square Online sites - so your customer could opt to buy 1kg, 2kg, 3kg etc, but no partial amounts (eg 1.5kg). You'd also need to create the item in your Square Dashboard (as opposed to creating it in the Online dashboard) to assign the weight characteristic, then once created the item would sync with your Online Store.

If you wanted to be able to sell a wider range of pre-defined weights it may be worth doing things a little differently, eg having your different types of steak as different items, then making the variation different weights (eh 1kg, 1.5kg, 2kg, 2.5kg).

I recommend managing this from the Dashboard rather than spreadsheet - working with variations on spreadsheets can be a bit finicky, you're welcome to try but it's probably going to be quicker managing from the dashboard due to ease of use.
