apply dollar amount discount to a single item

apply dollar amount discount to a single item

wasn't this an option previously? i feel like it may have went away with the recent update. i still have dollar amount discounts that i'm sure i've used in the past?

applying dollar amount discounts to individual items would help IMMENSELY.

In all of my years with Square I've only been able to apply % discounts to individual items, and $ discounts to the total as a whole. I would also like to offer $ discounts to individual items as well as % discounts.

Hey there, @TOCkzoo & @alexandriak -

Completely understand your frustrations when it comes to adding a dollar amount automatically for discounts. I don't have an update on when this would be added to our roadmap by the Product Team.

In the meantime, you can manually add the dollar discount in Virtual Terminal or your app. I know this isn't ideal, but it's what is available at the moment.

Our Product Team will provide an update on this request and we will be back to update the status.

Thank you for bringing this to the Ideate Board & feel free to tag other sellers that would be interested in this feature.

@Kassi_ we don't want the discount to apply automatically. that isn't the issue.

The issue is that when you have all the items entered into a sale, but you only want to discount one of those at a $1 off you can't. But you could discount just one item at 10% off.

@Kassi_

pretty sure they mean AT CHECKOUT.

I sell clothing type items. I SHOULD be able to add a ONE TIME dollar discount to an INDIVIDUAL item.

Scenario 1:

Say its a shirt. Customer notices its missing a button. They still want the shirt. But I don't want to do a percentage. I want to do say $5 off THAT ONE SHIRT, in THAT ONE TRANSACTION. There is no way to do this... only percentages. (or the $$ comes off the ENTIRE transaction)

Scenario 2:

Sometimes, we mark something down on clearance, but didn't get a chance to update the system, forgot to update it, or its that random one of a kind leftover size:

$69 item is now $40... that's ~43% off (actually its 42.02[Redacted]38% off). So, unless I have a % for EVERY number, 1-100%, and also have the time to do the PERCENTAGE math at time of checkout, my ONLY option is to do a $ discount on the ENTIRE transaction. so $29 off.... but then it divides it over ALL the items in the transaction not just the ONE item. so if they return a 'regular priced' item from that transaction, its even more pointless unnecessary math to make sure they are refunded correctly.

Scenario 3:

That same $69 item has an automatic $29 item discount applied to it (so it rings out as $40), but we have further reduced it to $30. If we had LINE ITEM VARIABLE DOLLAR DICSOUNT, I could remove the $29 automatic discount, click line variable $39 and be done. NOW I have to take another $10 off the transaction. OR go into the dashboard, remove from the automatic $29 discount, and add to the $39 discount.

Scenario 4:

With inflation, prices are changing all over the place. Say that $69 shirt is now $71. We've updated the system to ring out at $71. But we missed retagging an item on the floor with the higher price. Customer notices the higher charge at checkout and mentions it. A one time $2 line item discount makes WAY more sense then any other 'work around' BS ya'll keep suggesting.

Just give us a **bleep** option for:

LINE ITEM VARIABLE DOLLAR DISCOUNT

LINE ITEM VARIABLE PERCENT DISCOUNT

I could remove 15 'set' percentage discounts from my item screen, that are mostly useless but I currently use to 'get close enough'; usually causing me to losing MORE money, because I couldn't do 40% off in the example above, they would be paying more then the marked price, so I have to go lower..

This should be SOOOOOO easy..

I could then label them:

Damage Discount *FINAL SALE* (Variable $)

Damage Discount *FINAL SALE* (Variable %)

Clearance Discount *FINAL SALE* (Variable $)

Clearance Discount *FINAL SALE* (Variable %)

also... wouldn't it make more sense in the dashboard to add a discount under the item page rather then having to add items to each discount? It would be faster to update items as they get marked down further if we could do it from the ITEM instead of from the DISCOUNT. It's completely backwards.

This is not a feature request; it is a REQUIREMENT of ANY POS system to be able to discount an item individually by a dollar amount. Yet, here we are in 2023 still asking for this (I've seen posts dating back to 2016 about this issue) as if it were some obscure, new, never-before-seen feature we wanted added. When are you going to get off your duffs and get 'er done?

This is so needed!!! I have needed this so many times. In order to not mess up the cogs or affect the return value of EVERY item (thank you for all of the examples above, they are so accurate!), I have had to go and change the price of something in my library manually and then have to remember to go back and change it to its original cost again. This is exhausting if I’m trying to discount a lot of items and don’t want to have to go in to each item and change them just to have to change it right back again. I don’t know why this has been requested since 2016 (8 years ago) and hasn’t been developed. The tech is already there (the percentage discounts, the code just needs to be added for individual dollar discounts). Please, Square, help us out with this one. We would all so appreciate it!
