It would be great if Square could transfer square ownerships to avoid having to start a new account when an owner of a business moves on. Obviously the current owner would need to authrorise the transfer to the new owner.
We launched the option to transfer the ownership of a Square account this year so you can change the personal information associated with the account via the steps outlined in this article. The caveat here is that this is not currently supported when selling a business. I hope this helps, please let us know how you go!
Account transfer is available for Square accounts that were created without an ABN at the moment, but we're working on making this possible for accounts with ABNs in the future. If this is the case for your business, you'd have to create a new account. You can download your item library to transfer your items across to your new account via these steps.

Hi Guys, The original owner of our business has left and I have taken over, no sale, no change of ABN as I have taken over the ABN, but of course a change of owner name. I have completely set the Square up Retail wise for the previous owner and it has taken me hours and I understand that starting up a new Square and transferring items over it will not bring photo's etc. with it. Is there a way to just change the Owner name please?
Correct, if you are importing the item library to a new Square account you would be required to manually upload your item images again.
As mentioned above, we currently do not have the ability to transfer account ownership when an ABN has been used to sign up for a Square account. However, we do have some suggestions that might help.
In the past, Sellers in a similar position to you have kept the account owner's name the same and updated other information, such as the email address, in order to receive notifications from Square. We do want to mention that if you do require phone support in future with high-level actions (such as updating a bank account), we will need to verify the account information with the account owner in order to assist with these actions over the phone. However, most of these actions can be completed when logged into the online Square Dashboard.
If you don't want to create a new Square account, we strongly recommend making sure that you are listed on the account as an authorised representative. This will enable you to receive phone support for general account assistance (E.g. item library setup or hardware troubleshooting) if required.
If you do decide to keep the original account, we would also suggest touching base with a tax professional to ensure you are meeting your tax obligations as a business.
