Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit

Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit

I found the feature has been requested, but it doesn’t seem like it has been implemented. Since it may have gotten lost in the shuffle, I’ve decided to bring it up again. It looks like it has been requested since at least May 2016.

If the cashier selects a soda bottle, can we have the ability to automatically select the 5 cent deposit, as a non-taxable add-on? We have many cashiers, and the line of customers is often long, and I don’t want to burden them with having to remember to select the deposit as a separate item.

Thank you for reading/listening :).

Re: Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit

Please Implement this ASAP, CRV is a must, along with other types of bottle deposits. The fact that the support responses are workarounds rather than proper feature implementation isnt helpful to sellers who have to deal with these issues on the daily. Lets add automatic crv/bottle deposits to be charged, it can be a simple feature edit in the items, lets make this happen

Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit - or charge CRV in California

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Bottle Deposit

We are opening a cidery and will be selling bottles of hard cider. In Iowa you have to charge a .05 bottle deposit. Is there a way to have this charge automatically added to the sale of a bottle without adding it to the price? i would like it to show on the receipt as a .05 deposit but not have to remember to add to each sale. I guess it would be like a tax but it isn't a percentage and I don't see where I can change a tax from percentage to $.

Thanks for any help.

Another brewery in Michigan here that needs to charge a can deposit. Like another user, we also have pickup and delivery, so having some kind of automatic set-up would be ideal.

I am also a CA retailer that has been with square fore about 2 Years and request Square to address this issue.

We are in Canada too and have the same problem with bottle deposits for on-line wine sales.   I have followed the threads back to 2016, and this issue has not been addressed.   I think more organizations need to post, so that the Product Manager with Square can move this feature up the list, as it's clearly not  been getting the attention it needs 😉

How do I add bottle deposit to beverages

Hi there, @Bluenosedeli 👋 Welcome here to the Seller Community! We are stoked to have you join us.

I've gone ahead and merged your post into an existing thread of Sellers who were also looking for information regarding bottle deposits. Take a look at this existing Best Answer from Helen for more info.

Let us know if you have any clarifying questions!

I would like to second (or third or fourth) this request. As a distillery, we have a myriad of taxes, some percentages and some flat. Our current workaround is to have 5 versions of the same tax applying to different items that all equal the same "flat" amount. It's really, really challenging and very easy to mess up. Any chance Square could just add a flat tax option?

This works for in person purchases but not online. We need a solution that is streamlined, automatic and works for online sales.

I would think a simple solution would be to allow for the creation of a tax rule that allows certain modifiers, not just items, to be tax free. Then we could create modifiers for the proper package size (single, 4 pack, 6 pack) and assign to the corresponding items. The modifier would be required with a minimum modifier selection of 1.

Can someone at square please work on a way to attach bottle

deposit to skus. A lot of smaller point of sale companies easily do it and I don’t understand why square cannot. Someone in the higher ups needs to make this a priority. A lot more businesses will use square if this can be fixed. This thread goes back to 2016. Shouldn’t take this long to fix something so simple.

Adding in my vote for: Finding a Real Solution.
Having to manually remember to add in the deposit will certainly trip up our cashiers.

We also need the ability to refund the deposit when they return it, too.  Without knowing the ID of the original transaction, how can this be done?

No one from square is doing anything about this. I keep reaching out to them and it leads to a dead end.
