Change Cart Behavior and Design

I'm at a real loss here, because I cannot seem to find a way to change the shopping cart pane behavior or links. Customers have let me know they are frustrated that when they click "continue shopping" in the cart pane, the cart only minimizes and it doesn't take them back to the product catalogue. 

I have two questions then. 

1. Can we change the behavior of adding an item to the cart so that the cart pane does not open itself?
2. Can we customize the wording of the "continue shopping" link and perhaps choose where it redirects the user?

The ability you're looking for in the cart would be a Feature Request for the Online Store. This is excellent feedback and I appreciate you taking the time to ask about this here.
