Appointments on Register or Desktop

My register died.  I'm debating ordering a new one versus just using my Imac.  Any tips on how to use a desktop with taking payments?  I'd like to have a customer facing terminal where clients can update their emails and tap to pay.  Does anyone use ONLY a desktop.  No tablet or device.

I’ve been using my iPad mini for 2 decades. Very convenient. You can simply turn it around, or hand it to them.
I have a $20 a month data plan from Tmobile with my mini. No WiFi needed. Most people are familiar with checking out on square with a tablet. You can get a fancy holder for it. Do you need a register?

How about the iPhone? Has tap to pay.

I use my phone when my iPad isn't available. A mini is pretty cheep. A phone's screen is a bit small sometimes clients will hold it a bit longer trying to read it 😜

Isn’t a regular iPad cheaper than the iPad mini?

I have had to use a desktop but I've only been able to operate it as a full access owner. You can of course fully type in. Card transactions which technically cost more. But the easiest option is to simply send a bunch of invoices your customers can pay on their devices. Square also allows you vary the payment options and the ability to add contracts to sign for customers that can attach to those invoices. But honestly the phone was the easiest way if you don't want to by the mini terminal
