Square AMEX

I signed up for the Square Credit card offered through AMEX for my business. The benefit is that you get 1% back as free processing on your Square sales with every purchase.  The problem is that when the "free processing" is technically applied, what gets transferred to my bank account is the same amount regardless of the credit being applied or not.  For instance, if a transaction is $220.50, after fees are applied, what gets transferred to my bank account is $214.89.  This amount is the same and does not change even with a credit applied.  I'm not sure what the benefit here is and I've tried calling support and they have no idea what I'm talking about.  need someone to explain this rational further to me, please.  Screen Shot 2025-09-12 at 10.33.38 PM.png

Thank you for sharing! I wish I could help you. The other credit cards are pretty straightforward. Until the above post, I heard that there was a joint venture in the works but that was it. No details were released then. @abbeyc @marielmt is there a thread for these 2/3 American Express questions? Thank you!

We have a regular AmEx and honestly I LOVE the points and the perks cause I travel enough to make it worth it... I don't get why you aren't getting a credit. So odd!

This is pretty new and there have been a couple of bumps here and there. They have corrected them fairly fast. Now, you get an invitation to join the waitlist. Instead of a mass dump at one period, this is vastly better. We really do have great Mods here. They do care and understand, they do look into your situation not on the board as many forget this is a public forum. They tell them to check their emails. They are doing many jobs and still spend a lot of time on here.

They did reach out but unfortunately the initial email didn't touch on what the above problem has stated.  I have responded and will hopefully hear from her again soon.  Thank you, I appreciate the follow up.

Did they ever follow back up with you on this?  Curious as to what the perks were or how long the perks lasted.  (I'm more of a collector of cards than user).  I doubt I personally would ever hold the Square card unless the perks were good.

The never did follow up but essentially it's a scam.  There are no real benefits and the "free" processing doesn't really come out to much.  I never would have opened it if the terms had been clearer.

Sorry to hear that they didn't follow up with you.  It's definitely not a scam, but yes in my eyes, and yours the benefits don't seem to favor having this card. Hopefully in the future they change some things with the credit card.

It's not a scam in the way that someone is stealing from you directly but the terms aren't clear and there is only one benefit which, as it turns out, doesn't even come up out to anything, which is not clear when initially signing up.  This is especially disappointing compared to just having a regular AMEX.  Maybe I should have reworded it as, "I feel scammed by it since the terms of the benefit are not transparent", which could have avoided your need to correct it.

Don't understand where 'perks' enter into this -- if by perks you mean free Apple+ or a seat upgrade and so on?

The only perk/reason I signed up for this AmEx card is to save a few bucks worth of processing fees on behalf of my very small company. But, 1) because I'm having a very hard time deciphering if it's working (and this thread give me no faith) and 2) because I can't determine how to acquire the details of my AmEx transactions in CSV, so that I don't have to manually key them into my actual accounting software (so that I can accurately track expense categories), I am probably going to drop the card as not worth the trouble. Any updates on this sitch in the next couple-three weeks would matter in my decision making.

Thanks

Yeah, perks as in , what does this card offer? cash back on each transaction, air miles, processing etc. Which I believe it is just a one time(?) free processing up to a certain amount?  I don't have this card, nor would I ever acquire it.

As far as your questions, I am not sure about those but maybe @Adalynn can chime in and help you navigate where to find those!

Hi @LemontBlockAA !

You can view and redeem any rewards earned from your spending on the Reward section of your Square Dashboard

Once rewards are redeemed, navigate to the Balance Overview page and check your transfer history for sales dates after rewards were applied.

In regards to downloading a CSV file for your transactions, there is currently not a way to do this. We appreciate you providing your feedback and can definitely see how that would be a useful feature to have. I have passed your suggestion on to the team!

Let me know if there is anything else I can assist with!

Hi! I have a Square Amex as well. I accrued over $300 in free processing and redeemed them but over the past two months I have only received $2.21 in free processing so where is my other $297???  I have downloads/screenshots of every transaction that should have had free fee processing and it was not applied except to maybe two transactions in December. I'm beginning to think this was a scam.

Yeah, the "free" processing is very misleading, it's very frustrating.  It's not $300 in free processing, it's free processing on $300 worth or transactions.  For instance, if a client's total comes to $300 dollars at check out, that ticket's fees are free and basically uses up your credit.  Obviously, the amount of transactions it covers depend on how much each client spends but it's definitely misleading and a scam.  I never would have opened it if the terms had been explained clearer.

hi @christiema,

We appreciate you sharing your concerns surrounding the credit card rewards.

Whenever you spend on your Square Credit Card, you will get free processing credits. The exact amount you get will depend on your agreement.

For example, if your rewards rate is for every $3 you spend on your Square Credit Card, you earn $1 in Square sales with no processing fees – you earn around 1% back on your purchases. The exact amount will vary depending on the payments your business processes with Square.

For this example, if you’ve accrued and want to redeem $1000 worth of free processing, you’ll receive a reimbursement worth $26.10 for processing fees (2.6% +0.10) if your customer dipped or tapped their card in your store.

Once rewards are redeemed, navigate to the Balance Overview page and check your transfer history for sales dates after rewards were applied. The free processing will be valid for 365 calendar days starting from the day it is redeemed.

We apologize if there was any confusion regarding the reward rate when signing up for the card. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns as we would be happy to help clarify further.
