Bookkeeping nightmare because of Square Savings?

Does anyone else have a square savings account and do their own bookkeeping? Ever since I have a percentage come out of my credit card sales, my bookkeeping does not work because the transactions do not match my bank statements anymore and square gives you a savings statement for the month but it does not help at all because it doesn't tell you which activities are attached to each deposit. Why is this not shown in each transaction the same way that merchant fees are shown????? This is a disaster. Help!!!!!!!!!!

Hi @KMSnativeplants

The monthly statement doesn't help because Square treats those savings as a 'transfer' rather than a fee. To see the actual breakdown, you have to go to Money > Balance > View all activity in your dashboard.

If you expand the 'Payment Processing' line for the day, it should show the specific 'Square Savings Transfer' amount that was pulled out.

For your bookkeeping, most people find it easiest to:

  1. Record the full sales amount (minus merchant fees) into a 'Square Clearing' account.

  2. Then, record two separate transfers out of that clearing account—one to your checking and one to your savings.

This is usually the only way to get the deposits to match your bank statement to the penny.
Here is the page for more details, hope it helps
