Test Partial Payments in the Invoices Request Deposit Beta

Hey everyone!

I’m excited to announce that we’ve rolled out a beta for accepting partial payments with Square Invoices!

This new feature will allow you to create a single invoice and track multiple payments on that invoice. This may also be useful for those of you who want to accept a deposit and collect the rest of the amount due later.

We know this is a feature many of you have been waiting for, so I hope you’ll help us test it out!

Future request -

1)  I need the deposit amount to be any amount, not restricted by the invoice charges. 

2)  It would be great if I could do an invoice only for the deposit.  Current settings don't allow this. I could then send the invoice for the deposit prior to handing off equipment.  Use the card swipe onsite and separate the charges from the deposits. 

For example - customer rents a piece of equipment for a day - costs $40, days needed are unknown, may be 1 may be 3.  

The deposit of the equipment is $500 for damage or loss - 

Only way to set this up would be to invoice the customer for 13days and refund the difference after they return the equipment

Nowhere on the invoice tab gives me an option to create deposit. I look in settings and all over the webstie. Maybe I am just blind!

ok got it. So when I have an invoice for a customer and she wants to make partial payments over the next several week, I simply click that request deposit button with the requested amount? 

Just making sure I understood what I was reading when I clocked on that button

This looks to be a great start. I'm wondering if it is possible to split the remaining payment. For example, a deposit secures space on a trip, then a second payment confirms the spot for reservations, airline expenses, etc, then a final payment becomes due 30 days before a trip. Is this a possibility with the current set up?

Is this only for invoices? What about sales through the register? such as a deposit/downpayment for a personalized item in our store?
