Separating EBT and Non-EBT items

Separating EBT and Non-EBT items

Hi Sellers!

I have been using Square to run my grocery store and I am noticing the time wasted taking customers who buy EBT and Non-EBT items because, we would have to make two separate payments. Not only is it time consuming when the store is busy but, is difficult calculating if they are buying a large number of items. In most major retail stores, when buying EBT and Non-EBT items, the register will automatically separate the items when paying with the EBT Card and leaves the merchant and the customer with the remaining amount they need to pay for the Non-EBT items. I am requesting if we can get an option on items that can identify it as EBT or Non-EBT, so that the register can know what to separate at checkout. I know that Square doesn't take EBT cards but it would be helpfully for the people who use a third-party machine that takes EBT.

Thank you.

Hey @092,

Thank you so much for submitting this Feature Request!

Which third-party device are you utilizing to accept EBT payments?

Square integrates with TotilPay to allow EBT-authorized sellers to use their existing Square account and hardware to seamlessly accept credit, as well as debit, SNAP, WIC, and loyalty cards. TotilPay allows you to run unlimited EBT transactions by using uncomplicated register software with robust features. You can also access reporting, multiple location support, product management, coupon support, and more.

Check out TotilPay and how it works with Square in their TotilPay Support Website.

If we missed the mark please let us know so we can take a further look into this.

This is a poor workaround. I do not want to signup for another subscription on top of the existing square subscription. Direct EBT integration is a must for stores that want to sell EBT items and a workaround does not cut it.

@Grocerystore, I understand your frustration with the lack of direct EBT integration and the need for an additional subscription as a workaround. Currently, Square does not natively support direct EBT payments. Thank you for submitting your feedback.
