Reinstate the ability to SMS text message new Clients!

Following the recent SMS outage, Square Appointments feature removed the ability to text clients who haven't texted us first - i.e. we can only text "reply" now.

Clients who haven't texted us - regardless if they have an appt. or not - shows the following alert message (instead of the text box) when you attempt to text them:

The ability to text clients first is very much needed!

The client has already booked an appointment with us (or joined the beta Waitlist group), willingly shared their phone number as a way to communicate with them, and now - we can't contact them?? This doesn't make any sense after you all rolled out all the SMS features of late, like requesting payment or a Google Review.

This has affected our business because:

- We can no longer text clientele check-in information! We work out of building that is "locked down" following Covid. We generally text our clients information to help them locate the studio and now folks are getting lost because they don't check their email.
- Our clientele skews younger & prefers SMS texting over email.
Emailing results in our clients missing messages or never responding.
- The Beta Waitlist feature is built on the premise that we can text clients about open availability and now you can't for new clients!

I would pay more to have a dedicated SMS phone number attached to my business that can be used to message anyone in the Client Directory. I don't spam my clientele! The ability to communicate via text is the main benefit of Square Appointments (in comparison to other platforms who have better scheduling features!)

Please reinstate the ability to send SMS text messages to new clients, who have willingly shared their phone number when booking an appointment or joining the beta waitlist group!

Need that feature back. It is crucial.

Came here to gripe about the same exact thing!

Why, why, why!

How ridiculous to tell my clients, “well if you want updates from me you have to text me first!”

Also, how about how this is the actual worst possible time to mess with user communication tools.

Square should’ve just fixed the messaging, and rolled new features in January.

Same thing and I"m not getting any answers from support either. We use it to let clients know that their orders are ready for pick up. Now we can't let them know. It's impeding our work with the influx of phone calls coming in now.

As well I've had some clients that do try to reply to their electronic receipt but we are not getting the messages.

FIX IT PLEASE!!!

Yes this needs to addressed.  I was told a fix is coming in mid 2023 but id like to hear someone respond here to confirm

Beauty professional here......I'm now looking at other apps since it's clear Square isn't moving on this.  In fact, it looks as though they are going to funnel Appointments users to sign up for Marketing thus another monthly fee we have to pay.

It's beyond disappointing that the text feature worked just fine, then it didn't.  No fix, minimal to no explanation and no communication to Appointments users.

Its a snow storm here in Colorado today... wish I could text my clients that we've closed the salon!!

@DannyH  Can we get a response from a sq employee on this ?

Squareup told me and others as well, (from opening a ticket with them) that you must upgrade and they tried to sell it me as a way to make money and sms/blast my clients. Which is not what I use it for. Now, the only thing holding me back is if I do upgrade will I still have the same issue as not being to text my clients, to let them know their orders are ready if they have not contacted me first??

I wish they would be more transparent as to what is available to us and what isn't. The comparison on their site is also pretty vague. Nothing is confirming what I truly want to know.

Interesting! They didn't let me know that... I have Appointments Plus & the Marketing add-on and I still can't text 🤔 Id pay more for a dedicated business number! SMS is soooooo much better than email for conversions!
