Pick up shifts without trading/swapping

I would like my employees to be able to basically swap shifts without requiring a full swap shift for shift. Example: Jane wants to pick up Joe's shift on Monday because he can't work, but they don't need to swap any other shifts, she's just willing to pick up that shift.

We initially made an Open shift for that slot, but then once the Open shift was filled, we had to un-schedule and delete Joe's shift. Which is annoying and would be bad if we forgot to delete that.

Thank you for bringing this to the Ideate Board and providing that business insight on making it easier for your staff to swapping shifts for themselves. 

To make sure I get the full picture of what you're looking for - Are you looking to add any other permissions for this type of swapping? Is this something you'd want to approve as an owner or just allow the staff to swap at will? 

Maybe a timer if there is a dropped shift?  These other details will give our Product Team more information on what you're looking for.

The owner does not need to approve the swap, only be notified.

The key change is it doesn't need to be a "swap". Employee A can simply take over a shift for Employee B.

Currently, Squares system only allows employees to swap shifts.

Yes, This has been a frustration on my team. We should be able to sell, swap (only fetcher available now) and hand over a shift.

This feature would be useful to my business as well.

Often one employee will pick up a shift from another without doing a trade/swap.

Sometimes a partial shift is picked up by another employee. (i.e. shift is from 1 - 9 and new employee picks up 1 - 5 part with original employee keeping the 5 - 9 part).

Flexible configuration for which things need approval vs notice would be helpful, as well as a projection if the shift change is likely to result in overtime.

Any reasoning why this feature cant be implemented? Its important for employees to pick up shifts without having to swap shifts.
