Limit items per order

Limit items per order

We would like to have the functionality of limiting items per order / per customer:

Ex:

1) A customer can order X amount of an item per order / per lifetime.

2) An item could be added to the basket for a limited amount. ( Ex Max 3 of the same item in a basket)

Seems to be this is requested a year ago as well.

Hi @Mirth Thanks for posting!

Can you elaborate more on this request? You want to limit the amount of items a customer can add indefinitely? How are you fulfilling your orders? I believe there is an option to limit items that are picked up, but I will need to confirm.

Any additional information you can provide would be super helpful. Thanks!

Hi @BernadetteA I believe @Mirth is looking for an item-level or category-level limitation. Currently, you can only limit the total amount of items (any combination) per order. In other words, you can't say "Maximum of 5 sandwiches" AND "Unlimited bags of chips" simultaneously. The system currently looks at sandwiches and chips as just an item, regardless of prep time and/or specific resources required. If this ever goes to beta, I'd love to participate.

Square

@Mirth - we now have per-order quantity limits available - see here: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/7982-manage-square-online-item-settings-from-your-item-libra...

@allwhowander - I think that is a slightly separate feature request from what you described, but as it happens, we are indeed beta testing something like what you described. I'll shoot you an email

Thank you very much for the follow-up.

Slightly different from what we were originally after, but so glad to see how Square is improving the background.

All the best,

It is our mistake not to clarify the feature request in detail.

Here are the examples:

1) A customer can order X amount of an item per order / per lifetime.

Customer (A) logs in with their e-mail and can only order item (X) only once.

When A logs in and wants to order item X again, the system recognizes the customer and turns X unavailable for that particular customer. For all other customers, the item is still available.

2) An item could be added to the basket for a limited amount. ( Ex Max 3 of the same item in a basket)

Item has X has a limit order for the basket. Even though the inventory is 100 you can not buy the full inventory and only checkout 3 or 5 or N amount at a time.

Hope this makes the request more clear

Best

@Mirth the per-order quantity limit should function as you've described in (2)

Thank you! will test that...

Thank you for the update, @faheem

@Mirth I updated this to Delivered because the second option is available. Since your original post, we have notated that feature requests can only contain one idea at a time. I recommend submitting a new feature request for limiting items for a lifetime per customer as this is a separate request.😊

@faheem Thanks for pointing this out, I missed that update. The per-order limit is soooo close to what we need. We need that exact same feature except on a category level ("Max of any 5 items from the PIZZA category.")

Hello,

Regarding above update, I don't see a way to limit the quantity for a particular item. Can you please tell me how to do it?

My use case is: I want to limit the quantity to 1 for digital items (these are ebooks). Right now what happens is customer could accidentally enter higher quantity and get charged more even though there is only 1 deliverable digital file.

Thanks,

Vineet
