How to price Dine-in differently than Take away orders?

How to price Dine-in differently than Take away orders?

We are new to using Square point of sale. We want to create two separate menus - one for Take Away and one for Dine - in. How can I have different price for the same item for the two menus? We do not want to add variation to each item but want this control at the menu level.

Hey @Tredicipizzabar,

Thanks for reaching out.

At the moment Square Online doesn't allow for charging different item prices between delivery / pick-up orders unfortunately - though you can set a delivery fee if you're charging.

I've moved this post to our Feature Requests board, if you have more context for how this feature would help your business please feel free to add it to this post - when our product teams look at feature requests it helps to provide context in the form of a story regarding why this feature is important to your business!

Hi Seamus,

I have much the same problem, a pub with drink in or take away prices.

ie;  can of beer, drink in $7  take away $5......also carton of 30 cans $58..

this all make stock control a tad difficult

Hi @Pub5422, welcome to our Seller Community!

You could set up these pricing differences as variations on your items, so that the staff have the option of selecting between "Drink In" or "Takeaway" when selecting the item from the point of sale. In terms of tracking, the two variations will still require their own stock levels, but it keeps the reporting on those stock levels clear and easy to interpret.

We'd be happy to take this feedback to the relevant team, to let them know this is a feature you're looking for!

Hi Boris,

I have already done that, problem then if we receive 300 items of stock, do I put 150 on each list then be told we are sold out even tho still have stock.  Or do I put 300 on each list then add in my head each time I check stock.  I feel that Square could easily modify their program so we can work this.

I also have 3rd price where we sell by the carton which is about $2 per can compared to $5 and $7.

Bottle shops sell drinks by carton (24 or 30)....4 or 6packs.....and individually all with different unit prices so believe  they have a system that works for this

Square

Hi @Pub5422, thanks for your response and feedback here. We don't have an elegant solution to this scenario, or a system set up specifically to cater to what you're looking for, but there are a couple of workarounds we can suggest:

Firstly, you're right in that there are two options for stock management here. Probably the most common we see is splitting the stock levels in two as you brought up, and you're right in that it means that the system will alert you to the stock levels, as though they are two different items.

You may find that it is more natural to create new items instead of variations to existing items, to better manage the different item prices. You can keep them under category headings in your point of sale, so that they are easy to find.

We do appreciate your insight in terms of what you're needing from Square, so thanks for letting us know.
