Hand Terminal Back to Merchant message

Hand Terminal Back to Merchant message

After sale is approved, I choose No Receipt, it goes to a screen that says Hand Terminal Back to Merchant. The only option on that screen is "Print Receipt" in upper left corner.   So the only way to get out is to print a receipt.

I tried rebooting with no change.

I tried Skip Screen Receipt on and off. Any ideas on how to fix this? I want to be able to not print a receipt and then go to a new sale.

Thank you!

Hi @Amrit1, that doesn't sound right. When you have time it would be great if you could try these general troubleshooting steps for Square Terminal. I see you mentioned that your rebooted your Terminal but if the general troubleshooting steps don't do the trick you could also try to reset your Terminal.

If you'd prefer you can also call our CS team and they can help you to troubleshoot and escalate this to our engineers if needed. Phone support is available from 6am tomorrow morning (6am-6pm PT Monday-Friday).

The title of this thread has been edited from the original: Square Terminal Recommendations

We are a full service restaurant. We have 15 ipad mini's running square for restaurants and another 15 square Terminals for tableside payments. Our servers drop off the terminal (showing the itemized bill) and the customer inputs their own tips and loyalty points and inputs their number if they want a digital receipt, or they print it out.

There is this small thing that is really inconvenient for us and the customer:

When the customer presses the Print Receipt button, the next screen is a "Hand terminal back to merchant" prompt with a small "print" in the top left hand corner.

Why can you not make it so the when the customer presses print, it just comes out. We leave the terminal at the table for people to pay at their own pace. The server cannot always press the print button for the customer. Just let the Receipt Print automatically when they press it, or at least make a setting that allows this.

Another thing.
The way we are using the terminal is purely for payments and not for ordering. A setting that will turn the terminal into a "Payment only" option would be cool. That way when the server logs in, they only see their tickets, and are not allowed to enter anything else. This will help us accidentally clicking an item before giving the bill out.

Yeah, the "Hand Terminal back to merchant message" is quite annoying and adds an unnecessary step in the checkout process. Definitely a pain point shared by other sellers. I'll make sure to resurface your feedback to our Hardware Team so they can make improvements.

For the Payment Only bit - sounds like you might be interested in Team Plus, an employee management tool that secure and restrict employee access into sensitive areas of your Point of Sale. Just by enabling this, your servers will only be able to take payments and view their individual tickets by default. Other areas will be restricted unless you grant them additional permissions.

Has anything happened with this? It’s been another two years and would also like to be able to skip the “hand terminal back” step. I run a small coffee shop and use the terminal for my drive through customers. So I’ll hand them the terminal while I prepare their order; 9 times out of 10, they’ll hand the terminal back; I’ll hand them their order and they drive away. Then I’ll notice they wanted a receipt. Could we PLEASE have the terminal skip the “hand the terminal back to server” step and just let the receipt print?

Hi there @Java_Shack - Thank you for sharing your feedback. I've moved this thread over to the Square Terminal Ideate Board 💡This is where we keep feature requests for the Terminal.

Unfortunately, this feature is not currently planned. I’ve shared your feature request with our Product Team, as they are constantly improving our products based on feedback like this. To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for any updates in our Seller Community. We appreciate your input! 🙂
