Feature Request: Pause orders via my Square Online website using the Square Point of Sale app

The title of this post has been edited from the original: I'm getting orders in my online store after changing hours to closed.

I often have to temporarily close my food cart or change hours.  For now, I am doing this through: Settings > Pickup & Delivery > Hours.   However, I am still receiving orders after changing my hours to "closed" (my poor customers are actually coming to visit my cart and finding out that the cart is closed.  Which does not look good on us at all.....)

Is there a better way to change hours for the day?

Temporary closure function would be very helpful.

Re: Can you please add a toggle to pause online orders from the dashboard?

Hi there, @greenecanteen - so sorry for the confusion here. I am referring to the Online Dashboard. Here are the direct steps:

1. Log into the Square Dashboard

2. Go to Online Store (this took me to weebly)

3. Click "Settings", then "Checkout".

4. Toggle switch at top of that page that says "Accept online orders"

I hope this helps!

That is all well and good but are you going to give all your staff access to your dashboard? Not me! I still want a toggle on POS that cashier can temporarily shut down online ordering without a manager being present. This string is getting old and there doesn't seem to be any progress being made by Square to do anything about it. We keep being told to go to the weebly site to do the turning off and that works as long as there is someone that is present and that knows how to get there with passwords. But I don't want every one to have that access!

So what is happening with this request? Can you give an update? For you to continue to tell people on this thread to go to the dashboard is frustrating because we don't want to give access to our staff to the dashboard and if management is not present, then we get a frantic call to turn off online orders and we may not be close to having access to do it right away. POS needs a toggle button to temporarily shut off online orders. I am looking at other options for POS but I really do not want to switch form Square!

Our Product Team is aware of the demand for this feature. We're still monitoring this thread and passing along seller feedback. I hate to hear that you're looking at other options but we understand when decisions like that need to be made in order to do what's best for your business.

I need a way to let customers know that our restaurant is closed when they are placing an online order outside of business hours.  We have our hours posted on the page, but customers don't check that.  They place orders and when we come back to work the next day or after a day off we have to refund orders and call customers.  It is time consuming for us and frustrating for our customers.  Turning the store off is not a good solution because sometimes people want to place an order for a future date and we don't want to take that ability away if we aren't open.  Other online stores have a notification at some point during the order process to let the customer know that they are ordering outside of business hours.  It would be great if square added this feature.

We make products to order and have 2 pickup days per week, with a couple days for prep.  How can we stop Square from accepting orders for the week after a certain cutoff day?

So, for example, our pickup days are Friday and Saturday, and we need 2 days to prep the orders. We'd like to cut off ordering for the week on Tuesday evening.  If someone orders after Tuesday, we'd like them to only be able to schedule pickup the following week.

Thanks for any help.

@HungryPanda -  There isn't an automated way to disable your site after hours. You'll need to disable Accepting Orders in settings. Moved you to a thread with instructions up top.

There isn't an automatic feature that cuts off orders. You have to manually disable accepting new orders from your site settings.

@MarshmallowMama

Everyone struggling with this - make sure you take part in the survey square sent out today

it asks about the needs to fulfill orders - such as toggle on/off online store directly on POS

I would like to also request that Square add this automation as a feature. I would love if we could set our store hours and then have the option to only accept orders a certain amount of time before opening. And yes, instead of saying this will be ready the next day, they simply shouldn't be able to place the order.

I have had customers place orders after 5 minutes prior to closing and they don't see the ready the next morning part. So we have to refund and it's a hassle and embarrassment for both parties.

We make different baked goods each morning and my morning staff updates inventory about ½ hour prior to opening. If customers order before then, they are ordering things from the previous day that we don't have.

Again, this seems like a no brainer that this should be a feature. Is this Weebly's programmers' concern?

Due to a problem with order limits, I had to stop accepting online orders while sales were ongoing

There were 5 to 10 customers who thought they submitted an order, came to pick them up and there was no order or transaction in our queue. I had no way to verify they tried to submit an order or not, and they had not paid for the order since there was no transaction posted. We took the customer's work and decided to give them their food for free.

If a customer has their shopping cart full and in the process of making payment when the online store is closed, does Square tell the customer their order cannot be completed?

Is there a graceful way to suspend or stop orders in work when the online store stops accepting orders?
