Why I can't find the "Open Tabs" option in the Self-serve ordering setting?

Hi there @salinafok,

Thanks for reaching out with your question!

When customers submit a self-serve order using QR codes, this order information is sent to your Orders page, which you can access directly from your point of sale app, or the online Square Dashboard. Here, you will see a record of any unpaid orders that are currently open, as well as completed orders.

I hope this helps to answer your question!

P.S. Welcome to the Seller Community! 🤗

Thank you Laurie! May be you misunderstood my meaning. Please check the screenshot below. Why there haven't the "Open Tabs" option in the setting of Self-Serve Ordering? We don't want our customer pay or input any name or card info before they leave!

I just want to make sure I'm on the same page with you here, @salinafok.

Are you asking why Open Tabs isn't available through self-serve ordering? And furthermore, if you don't want your customers to pay through the self-serve order flow, how are you wanting to use it instead?

For example, are you wanting to collect customer information?

I'm just a bit unclear as to what you're asking here, so if you could provide some further context that will help me to better understand your query.

Yes, my question is why the "Open Tabs" isn't available through self-serve ordering?

We want our customers to sit down and scan the QR code to place the order, they don't need to pay before they have the meal. Maybe they can scan the code to order more food or drink. When they finished, we can help our customers to pay totally by card or by cash. Did I make myself clear?

Stepping in for @Laurie_ while she's out of office, @salinafok 👋

Self-serve ordering is designed so customers pay at the time of the order without the need for you or your staff to collect their payments. We released this in response to contactless payment options becoming more necessary during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is why the option to pay via cash or in-person wasn't built into self-serve ordering. Collecting payments in person would also defeat the purpose of this being a self-serve process.

Open tickets are currently only available via in-person ordering and would have to be created by you directly. Take a look at our best practices for open tickets here

It sounds like what you're after would be a hybrid between the two - where customers can order and pay later in case they want to add more items to their order, but don't have to interact with staff until it's time to pay. This would be considered a feature request, which you can submit to our development team here

Wow you guys really misunderstood what @salinafok was saying!

When you google ‘how to open a tab with self serve ordering’ it’s shows a page that has an ‘Allow open bills’ toggle. I assume that is the American version. In the same location on my dashboard, there is no toggle for allowing open bills.
Meaning that Square does allow tabs to be opened, added to throughout the night and then paid at the end with self serve ordering. But why don’t we have that option in Australia? Is it just the American version?
I would like people at my bar to be able to open a tab when they sit down, continue ordering drinks all night and then pay at the end. Is this an option for Australian customers? Is this toggle located somewhere else?
Please help.

You're correct here, @Rhumburgundy, Open Tabs via self-serve ordering is not currently supported with Square Online for Australian Sellers.

When you search the above in Google, the top result is for a US Support Article. While I'm unable to go into specifics with you, there are many legal and compliance reasons why certain features are available in some countries and not others. In some instances, certain features are eventually rolled out to other locales following their initial launch.

To ensure this feedback is flagged with our Product Team, I've renamed and moved this thread to our Feature Request board for Square Online. Should we have further updates to share in future, we'll be sure to tag and comment in this thread.
