Feature Request: Item Back Orders

Feature Request: Item Back Orders

I think it would be beneficial to add the capability to accept back orders. Currently to allow this I essentially created an option set on items I wish to accept back orders called availability and created items in pairs where I track stock on available item but not on back order item allow customer to purchase from back order item. I think it would be cleaner if it could be done with rule on backend that says if item is backorder-able and quantity on hand is zero allow customer to order but prompt customer it was back ordered and show back order information such as estimated time frame etc and allow option to purchase any way.

So, my biggest complaint with Square is that there is no backorder functionality. I am trying to find a workaround and thought of this:

-Have your regular location but then have a second location called "Backorder".

-You can have the same item catalog at both locations, but the "Backorder" location will have stock tracking turned off.

-It will cost an extra $60/mo but that seems to be the least expensive workaround I can figure...

Has anyone tried this?

Hello everyone! This is a very interesting conversation about a Feature Request for our Items. I will be moving this thread over to the Feature Request board for better visibility. Thanks to everyone that has contributed to the discussion, it may be continued there.

Unfortunately, a year later and it still not being an option has pushed me over to Shopify. I liked Square, but it's just lacking so much functionality that other options have.

I operate a clothing label where we manufacture items ourselves, often we don't have finished inventory of certain colours/sizes but they can be produced quickly but there isn't a function to allow orders past zero with the ability to also count/track stock.

Will this be implemented soon?

Hey @balinfoley,

Thanks for getting back in touch with us! This would currently be a feature request, so I've moved your post to this thread, where we're tracking it.
