Feature Request: Automatically add a bottle deposit

I found the feature has been requested, but it doesn’t seem like it has been implemented. Since it may have gotten lost in the shuffle, I’ve decided to bring it up again. It looks like it has been requested since at least May 2016.

If the cashier selects a soda bottle, can we have the ability to automatically select the 5 cent deposit, as a non-taxable add-on? We have many cashiers, and the line of customers is often long, and I don’t want to burden them with having to remember to select the deposit as a separate item.

Please Implement this ASAP, CRV is a must, along with other types of bottle deposits. The fact that the support responses are workarounds rather than proper feature implementation isnt helpful to sellers who have to deal with these issues on the daily. Lets add automatic crv/bottle deposits to be charged, it can be a simple feature edit in the items, lets make this happen

We are opening a cidery and will be selling bottles of hard cider. In Iowa you have to charge a .05 bottle deposit. Is there a way to have this charge automatically added to the sale of a bottle without adding it to the price? i would like it to show on the receipt as a .05 deposit but not have to remember to add to each sale. I guess it would be like a tax but it isn't a percentage and I don't see where I can change a tax from percentage to $.

I will be merging this post to an older thread where other Sellers have provided workarounds. 

Although we don't know when this feature will be available at the time, you might be able to find a workaround there. 

Alternatively, I would suggest checking out our Ideate boards here in the community, where it's easier to know exactly where a feature request stands since we can update its status. You can post this request there for other to add their voice to it.

You're right, this has been a long time feature request from our sellers. I have added the older thread to yours to show our Product Team the popularity of this one in particular. 

At the moment, this isn't planned for implementation. Our Product Team will take further review on this and one of the Community Moderators will come back to update the status on your Feature Request.

Any update?  Having our cashier's press "CRV" button for every bottle/can is still a lame workaround.

Agreed!  Here is another retailer who would really like to have an option for bottle deposits!  I can't believe with everything Square has, they have not addressed this yet.  I was very happy with the system until now, having to do a work around will most likely end up with our business not charging/not charging correct amount for bottle deposits and is very inconvenient.  Almost enough to want to return my POS.

We are a liquor store in Connecticut and need a Bottle Deposit feature.

Currently we are using a modifier that adds on at the end of the checkout but my father forgets to add this item every so often.

What we need is something to automatically add on to the item.

Create an Item variation(6 pack Beer) with a automatic bottle deposit.

This has been the most frustrating part of the system.

Hey JC what I’ve done so far is the below.

1 - Created a “Category” called Bottle Deposit. I created an item called “Bottle Deposit” with $0.00 price. I also highlighted the category color asred. I removed the Tax from this category Item (important)

2 - Created a “Modifier” called Bottle Deposit

Within the “Modifier” I created different bottle deposit items:

1x Btl Deposit - 05 cents
6x Btl Deposit - 30 cents
12x Btl Deposit - 60 cents

I applied set from the Bottle Deposit “Modifier” into the Bottle Deposit “Category”

Now when I go to “Checkout” and I go to “All Items”. I will see the Bottle Deposit Category highlighted in red. I will click it and insert the correct Btle deposit item and it adds as a separate item in the cart with the correct btl deposit price non taxed.

This won’t get taxed since I made the category non taxed
