Feature Request - Ability for Customer to upload images, files to Square Online

Hi there,

I am toying with the idea of building an online store. Bit of background, I own a small gift printing store. In order to take online sales i will need to allow customers to upload their photos when adding an item to the basket.

I can do this via woocommerce or opencart. However id like to keep all my invoices and orders tied in with square in one place.

So my question is, using squares website building platform, can a customer upload a image while adding an item to the cart as well as a text submission for names and dates etc...

Thanks,

Dan

You are seriously joking.  This thread started in 2020 and has 9 pages of comments and the best that the Square Empire can come up with is "we will circle back with an update"!

Is there any way to improve the chances of an update - say like placing a comment on every facebook and instagram add for square?

Anyone with any other thoughts about improving response?

I was just wondering if there is a feature for Customers to upload an image so we can use it for custom orders, I have tried looking but can't seem to find one.

Thanks

I need this ability as well as an Engraving business owner... figure it out please!!!!

Hi @Ava_Crafts,

At this time, the ability for customers to upload an image via Square Online is a Feature Request. I've gone ahead and moved your post to this thread where we are tracking this request, so that we can be sure you'll receive an update.

In the meantime, I’d recommend reviewing the comments on this thread for suggested workarounds, and take a look on the Square App Marketplace for any integrations that provide this functionality.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help here. If you have any other questions, please let us know!

I gave up after a couple years.  Y’all lost a customer due to the lack of support

This is a must have feature for Laser cutting and engraving, I need this feature ASAP. To not have this ability, Makes Square look clunky and hard to use for customers. As a brand new business I can't afford yet, to pour a bunch of time to work out custom api's and plugin integrations then pay for a secondary service, Hell, I'd be happy to pay a small increase in fees to get this functionality.
The worst part about this is that it wouldn't even be that hard for the developers to implement this, but the ramifications it has for my business are extreme. So I will likely be forced into some janky api integration that will cost me an arm and a leg.

Hello

After 4 years of patiently waiting for square to integrate this feature I'm afraid I have grown weary. I am breaking up with square. Thank you for giving me a platform to start my business, I will remember our time together fondly.

As my departing gift I present to you every available workaround for customer file uploads:

Option 1: Embed a form from a form builder

Pros:
- Allows customers to upload images
- You can still use square 🙂

Cons:
- You will have to pay. Upload forms tend to be a weak spot in website security so companies charge accordingly. When I started I used jotform, which was a reasonably affordable option when I was starting small. It quickly escalated once I got more customers and I ended up paying pretty much the same amount I paid for square per year.
- It makes the customer process pretty janky.
Using my limited skills I managed to embed the form into my website as something for customers to complete prior to checking out. It was confusing for some, and made editing orders / checking availability difficult for customers. With a lot of time and effort this may have been able to be ironed out but I ran in to A LOT of obstacles.
- It uploads customer images to a separate location
This was okay for when I started out but quickly became a massive pain in my bum. Customer's orders would come through on square, but their photos upload to jotform / google drive. I ended up wasting valuable time matching up all the images to their relevant orders.

Option 2: Add a free form!

Pros:
It's free

Cons:
- Same issue with images being uploaded to a different location than the corresponding order.
- Even more janky than the embedded form
If you use something like google forms it won't be able to be embedded into your site, but you can link customers there. This directs traffic AWAY from your site which isn't ideal and makes it particularly difficult for customers to navigate.
- Unprofessional
I personally feel that redirecting customers to a google doc feels a bit unprofessional. Again could totally work especially if you're on the smaller business side but just didn't feel right for me.

OPTION 3: ABANDON SHIP! LEAVE SQUARE

Pros:
- So many ecommerce platforms that do everything square does + this
- Cheaper than paying for square + jotform
- Wayyyyy better customer experience for file upload
- The images upload directly to the order!! I click on the order and it shows me everything + their uploaded image!

Cons:

- Gotta rebuild your website from scratch (a lot of the ecommerce sites make this pretty easy though)

I moved to Shopify because it solved this problem the best. I installed a FREE extension from their app store (BSS Variant Options), and it allows customers to upload images that save to their order. I also found an extension ($7 a month but so worth it) that allows me to CAP THE NUMBER OF WEEKLY ORDERS, which is a lifesaver. Shopify is the only platform I found that you could do this on. Also their marketing, order management and POS is also just as good as square.

Other ecommerce sites like squarespace, wix etc have an upload feature or at least an easy workaround, it's just a matter of your budget and what works best for you.

I hope this is helpful! xoxoxoxo

This feature is must for those of us that have  customised options, and i am sure there are quite a few.

I am no computer wiz but surely this cant be that hard to implement.

I feel you will loose a lot users to other platforms just by overlooking this what i would think an easy add.

I would love for the discussion to be had around adding the feature of an 'upload image of file' on the CONTACT US tab for our website. Rather than have a client email us back and forth, they can upload the image at the first request via the website
