Dropping and picking up shifts

Employees don't always want to trade shifts and currently that is the only option available.

We need a feature as follows:

1.  Employee requests to drop a shift
2. Employer approves/denies request
3. Shift is moved to open shifts
4. Employee picking up shift requests to pick it up
5. Employer approves it

While it isn't currently possible for team members to drop and pick up shifts in the way you've described, we appreciate the detailed explanation of what you'd like to see. We’re currently using Square for time clock, POS, and payroll. But we frustratingly are still using When I Work for scheduling because it has separate Swap and Drop functionality.

I am also strongly requesting the drop feature, though not exactly as above. TBH it should be implemented just like When I Work does it:

1. The employee offering the drop sees who’s available to offer it to and can uncheck people from that list (of course they always just leave everyone checked unless they’ve spoken to someone in advance).
2. The manager can then remove potential takers before approving.
3. Once approved, the requesting employee gets a notification that they’re still responsible for the shift until someone takes it.
4. Then when another employee picks it up, the manager doesn’t have to approve again because they’ve already eliminated anyone who shouldn’t take it (i.e. someone who’d end up with a double shift or OT for the week).

This is mostly pretty ideal except for the occasion when someone is sick and doesn’t bother to let us know that they can’t come in regardless of who picks up (despite the pop-up in step 3). We’d love to dump When I Work to get our scheduler integrated with everything else, but we can’t do Swaps only for people’s change requests!
