Allow Wording Change For Tip Option

Allowing tips is great for restaurants, but I would like to be able to change the wording, and allow donations.

 

I always have a jar on my counter to collect donations to one cause or another. Many times people will pay with cards, and comment on how they don't have cash on them to make a donation. Instead of having the option to tip come up, it would be helpful to be able to change the wording to "Donate to the Humane Society", "Donate to the Herbst Family", or whatever else we wanted to make it say.

I can totally see the need for a feature like this and how beneficial it could be for sellers. At this time, Square does not offer a feature that will allow you to edit the verbiage on your account. I'll be happy to move this over to a feature request board so that our engineers have visibility of your suggestion. We appreciate you sharing your request. While there is no time frame for when it will be implemented, i'm happy to make sure our engineers have eyes on your request.

I love this idea as well. We are a retail business, so while many regular customers ask to leave a tip in order to support us during COVID, we also have customers that feel anxiety/pressure to tip when confronted with the tip screen. It's normal to see that in a food service setting, but since we are retail, we have had a few people complain that we shouldn't be "begging" for tips since we are not providing a service. I have no idea why they are assuming the worst (nobody is begging, the "no tip" button exists for a reason, haha) but because of this experience, it would be wonderful to have the ability to add a custom message letting them know that their extra support is appreciated, but by no means necessary. I also love your idea about explaining a bit how the tip money will be used. In our case, pre-COVID, the tip money was used to take them all out for a nice dinner or something fun. Now the money is used to stock the break room with their favorite drinks and snacks, as well as donations to local non-profits.) The customers that know that LOVE this idea, and joke that they wanna contribute to our "rosé fund" - but we don't really get a chance to verbally educate each customer, ya know?
