For some products, I have a large description, especially for eBooks. The item page would look much nicer if the product description were beneath the image, rather than to the side of it.

At the moment it is only possible to move the layout to the left or right side, and choose to display the description above or below the buy button. I'm not sure if you have had a chance to play around with the settings, but you might want to check to see if any changes make a subtle difference. See Goldeneye's best answer on this thread for more details.
Hopefully we'll see more layout options in the future. I'll be sure to provide your feedback to the teams. 😊
HI, you can move the description up to underneath the the Title instead of at the very bottom.
Here are the breadcrumbs and screenshot to locate.
Online Dashboard, Website, Edit Site, top click Page: Home, scroll down and click any item, click Item Details, click Description, check mark Show the item description above the Buy button.
Thanks @Goldneye & @BernadetteA! Hopefully we'll see more layouts in the future as right now it's extremely limited. Right now, for example, on a guide page it'd look so much better if the "More Details" section were underneath the image than than being in a small column.

I agree totally and was about to request this. With the description area not wrapping below the image, these pages look ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS with any longer description forming a narrow tall column down the side of the page.
Many products need additional details let alone the added SEO value for content.
Please introduct more layout options ASAP.
P.S. It's also driving me crazy we cannot add an additional section above or below an item or category layout. Even something simple like a header or text area where we can provide additional product or ordering information.
