Will my items/categories “sync” from Square Online to the Square site builder by Weebly?

Hi all!

I am new to using square for a small start up, and I am just wondering if I have to add items and the catagories for products to both the square program (to be able to utilize this on my mobile for the odd mobile transaction checkout using the app) as well as the square website editor where you then are also able to “add items” and “catagories”. It said somewhere that the catagories do not sync, so I am just wondering where I should add my items ans categories and if/or I will have to do this again in order to use the POS devices that sync to your phone using the app?

I also read the thread on here about creating 0 dollar invoices, which would be helpful for tracking inventory and when you want to create an invoice for promotional promo expense, or a donation etc. Not sure if this has been updated yet or if users are still working around this by doing a transaction with a zero dollar amount owing (with either promo code or comping the items with a label of choice) in order to alter inventory and have record.

Anyways, I have a weebly site but then read that it may be better to utilize square as they purchased weebly, so I am now planning on having an external square site that is just linked to my existing weebly site via a “shop” button (aka external link to square site) so I can utilize and essentially have all my square items synced and work the best together, and yet I am still a tad confused by the square.com site/app vs. the square website builder... will keep playing, but any advice is greatly appreciated. 🙂

Hi there @AlexandraScott 👋

You can create and use items and categories (and subcategories!) within your Square Online website. I'm not sure where you read this isn't possible, but the good news is that it is! I'd also recommend reading through this page that covers how Square Sync works to gain a better understanding of how your Square account will work together with your website. It would also be helpful to review this page, where we lay out most of what you'll need to know in order to get your Square Online website off the ground.

I'm not entirely sure which thread you are referencing about $0 invoices. If you're referring to this one, it looks like this is considered a feature request - at this time, an invoice must have a $1 total, at minimum. We'll be sure to update that thread if something changes!
