Why doesn't Register Point of Sale show stock levels?

When a customer asks "do you have any more' it would be nice to check register and say 'yes, we have 6 more' .

The data is in the system. Why doesnt it show on the POS. 
Shopify displays inventory levels at checkout - we need this functionality on register.

Great feature request. I can completely see how this would be useful. Are you using Square for Retail or just would like this for the Point of Sale?

Im trying to use both - but at this point, probably going to give up, my third try in 3 years, because of the barcode issues (inability to use product BARCODES THAT ALREADY EXIST)  and this, and the inability to add multiple items (colors) of a type of product without going round and round doing the same 'add to cart' at the same time.

I'm really sorry for the frustration Judy. Just to clarify, you should be able to view your current stock levels from the Items section of your Register - but that information won't automatically populate at the end of a sale.
