Why does square sometimes put a $100 limit on purchases?

Why does square sometimes put a $100 limit on purchases? I then have to divide the purchase. Awkward.  It happens randomly but not for every purchase over $100.

Hello @tpl,

Thank you for posting in the Seller Community. Welcome.

Payment limits are restrictions that put a temporary cap on your ability to process transactions through your Square account. It’s important to note that Square doesn’t put limits on your payments because you’ve done anything wrong. In certain situations, we put limits in place to protect your account and the larger Square ecosystem from transactions that seem likely to result in payment

disputes (which means financial loss for both of us—seller and Square alike).

If you would like to read up more on it, check out this link here.
