When I try to set up a recurring invoice, I select Invoice and then select Recurring under Filter.

I see where I can create a invoice but do not see where I can schedule automatic montlhy payments.

It sounds like you are viewing invoices on Square Point of Sale. Currently recurring invoices can only be created from the Square Dashboard.
