I don't know what this is for. I was using this area (mistakingly) for entering my unit costs, until I found out that unit costs is only added within the stock area after selecting "stock received."

Which screen were you looking at exactly?
It sounds like you're looking at the actual item details when clicking on an item in your Square Dashboard Inventory Management Stock tab.
If so, the Cost box indicates the vendors cost for the item itself.
