What do business hours control?

I've noticed that changing my business hours under Account and Settings/Location affects the timing of auto-generated daily sales report by the daily start/end times.  How do the business hours affect sales reporting and transactions in general?

Your daily sales summary email is automatically generated based upon your business hours, so once the hours have been updated, your sales summary will be automatically adjusted. Is that what you mean?
