I'm a US seller with nexus in Oklahoma. I'm confused about the instructions for setting up international orders. Are US sellers required to collect international sales taxes?
Any help appreciated.
Hi there, @pattyloof 👋 Thanks for reaching out and checking in here on the Seller Community! Happy to have you join us.All good questions! Sorry for the confusion surrounding setting up International Sales Tax. We will do our best to assist!
First things first, we are limited from giving specific advice on which taxes to charge for your business. For that information, we would recommend reaching out to a Tax Professional to ensure you've got all your bases covered. We do not guarantee the applicability or accuracy of our tax tools. If you have any questions about your tax obligations, you should consult a professional.
In terms of setting up your international taxes, are you specifically referring to the Online Store? We do have a general guideline for managing taxes that should get your started and walk you through some details. If you have any specific questions regarding a specific step or 'how-to,' please let us know!
I will keep an eye out for your response!
How do I make my store US only, then?
Hi @pattyloof I'm stepping in for Joe today!
In order to limit orders to the US, please visit Settings > Shipping > Add Region. You can add the US as a shipping region and set up shipping rates for the US. That’ll limit orders to just the US.
Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂
if your selling to states that have taxes you can apply a tax. be careful i did it and messed up an was paying double i was paying the card processing fee plus the tax rate i set for each item. but below is the instructions i found on how to do it
You can also adjust your taxes from the item level:
Note: Taxes will automatically apply to sales where a custom amount is entered. To disable taxes for custom amounts visit your tax settings in the Square app.
With the Square app, you can create multiple tax rates and customize how tax is applied to your items.
Note: From the Sale screen, you can also tap Tax to view all tax rates applied to the current sale. Tap the red minus icon to remove a tax rate from applicable items within the sale.
You can enable your employees to edit taxes at the time of a sale through your employee permissions.
