Turning on docked reader

I've searched unsuccessfully; is there really no way to turn on a reader inside of the dock? The process of removing it from the dock is a little cumbersome (I did find lots of questions about how to do that 🙂 I guess maybe it's a once-a-day thing for most people, but still it seems like I must be missing something basic.

Are you talking about the chip reader being used with the Square Stand? We never have to turn ours on. When we login to Point of Sale, it comes on automatically. Just a few seconds after we login, the screen says the reader is ready.
