Square Register, Square for Retail, and Shopventory

Hello Square Community. I am working with Community Farmacy, trying to get their inventory and online and store front to all work together in sync. From what I can gather, square for retail and square register do not seem to like each other, but is it possible to use both? Use square for retail for inventory management and the register for our POS. Also, if I use variants in square for retail (or shopventory) will that work with the square register or will I have to use an Ipad? I just want to see what the best direction to go in would be. I need to use the register we have and I would like to use one of the two aforementioned softwares to do inventory and reports. I would appreciate any feedback you can provide.

Hey @thehemphealth and welcome to the Seller Community!! This is an amazing question, but you have a few options. I will describe some of the facts below for you to make a good decision for your company:

1: The Square for Retail subscription is not compatible with the Square Register. It's on our radar, but we just don't have it available now. That being said, yes, you can still use Square for Retail in the background (Dashboard) as far as tracking your Cost of Goods reports (COGS) because the inventory sold will still be gathered in reports. However; the main downside is you will need to do all major inventory management on the back end, meaning all purchase orders, bulk inventory adjustments, store transfers, inventory history, and unit cost management will have to be done on the Square Dashboard.

Again, this is definitely doable (I do this with my demo account - I'm subscribed to Square for Retail, but also sign into Point of Sale regularly to test things), but it will not be as unified of an experience as if you did have the Square for Retail app on an iPad.

2: You cannot use Square for Retail with Shopventory. You can always link the two to your Square account, but I have no idea how the reporting will look on Shopventory's side. It could all work without a hitch, but I cannot promise that and I would strongly push you to choose just one.

3: If you have variables for your items, Square for Retail will report that as well, just make sure you have unit cost applied to those as well so you can get the most out of your reporting.

I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any other follow up questions!!
