Square Register - GTIN

Is there a way to get GTIN onto Square Register?  I need the SKU number for my inventory system so I can't put the GTIN there.  But without putting the GTIN in the SKU field, my bar code scanner doesn't work.  

I hope I don't have to choose between barcode scanners and inventory systems.

Just to be clear - you want to use both the SKU number and the GTIN? What happens when you enter both?
