Size and color variations for flies

I'm trying to set up a fly shop using this service. I'm finding it difficult to add proper variations for size and color. When I create a "variation" called Color and another called Size then load the item's page, it displays a dropdown with Color and Size in it. When I see "variation" I expect that I can add options to the variation, but that doesn't appear to be the case. When I try using modifiers I can do a checklist or a text box; the text box doesn't work because the customer doesn't know what I have available, and the checklist allows multiple selections which also doesn't work.

So what do I do? Do I have to create separate variations for every single combination of size and color? If that's the case then Square is out of it's mind and I'm bailing to somewhere else.

I'll follow on to this by saying I can use modifiers to visually get what I want by setting the modifier min and max to 1, but I can't track inventory using modifiers. It shouldn't be this hard.

Hi @paxflies

Whenever you add the variation you will want to list out the colors and sizes. That way you can select those whenever you're checking out. An example would be for T-shirt: you would want to create a variation for colors and then one for the size separately.

So to make sure I'm understanding you correctly:

If I have a t-shirt that comes in Small, Medium, and Large sizes and also comes in black, green, and red colors then I need to create six variations, those being Small, Medium, Large, Black, Green, and Red.

Based on my experience so far with Square Online Store, those 6 variations would all show up under a single dropdown menu, which is incorrect. This also would not let me track the number of small red, medium black, etc. shirts that I have.

As far as I can tell, there are no sub-variants, so I can't create a variant called Color and list out three colors as sub-variants. Based on the naming scheme though, I would expect this to be the design.

In this case, you would want to create your items with their size, example: T shirt -S, T shirt -M, etc - then add the colors as the variations. I am sorry for the confusion on the previous post, I didn't explain it well.

You're correct- the subvariant aspect would be a feature request for our system.
