Sales tax

Is there a way to have one terminal add taxes and another have no tax. We have a booth at a mall where we add taxes to each sale. We also sell at events such as fairs and home and garden shows where we don't deal with change and just charge a flat amount.

The flat amount is it always the same price or category?

Are you trying to track inventory using Square?

I know on the Square Stand I can swipe and turn off sales tax after all items are rung up.  I do this when I sell wholesale to my vendors.  This lets me track my inventory and not charge Sales Tax.

You could also create an item that is called Fair and not enter a price, and turn off TAX for that Item.  Then at the Fair when you select Fair you can enter the items price.... if the price is always the same you could enter the price for it with Tax off.  These options will not track items in your inventory though.

We are using the triangle shaped terminal. We don't use it for cash or POS. Its way easier and faster if we use flat amounts while doing shows. Can't deal with making change.

I do not use the terminal at all, but I think on your dashboard you should be able to make an item that you can pull up on the terminal.  Make the Item "Fair Item" or something that you know what it is at the fair,  Set the price as your fixed price.  Set the Tax rate for that item at 0% or turn off the tax.  Then when you are on the terminal type in the name of the item you set for the No tax rate.  Below is a screen shot of where you can get to set the tax rate of an item or to turn off the tax.

When you click the Sales Tax link the arrow points to, you will see check boxes, when they are blue they are enabled.  For me I have a Blue box for Taxes and a blue box next to 6% for my states rate.  If I uncheck those boxes for that item, then no tax is applied.  Which I have turned off for food items and for wholesale purchases.

Found this quick Youtube Video for Square Tax settings showing how to enable them and how to turn them off, in the app through settings on a device.  I do not always like this as I am not sure if it just effecting the device or the entire account,  Meaning if i went to a flea market with a Terminal and turn off taxes, does this effect my Ipads at my store front?  Which is why I suggested creating 1 item to either change the price or have a set price for that has 0% tax or the taxes turned off. But here is the Link by Square for Sales Tax settings:
