Risk Manager - why is this not mandatory at account set up?

It has recently come to my attention that Square may not be doing everything they can to assist Users with avoiding being scammed.  As all business owners know scamming is on the rise and we need all the tools we can utilise to mitigate risks.  Did you know that the Risk Manager feature on Square is only enabled if you initiate it?  In over 12 months as a User I was unaware of this. Following an awful incident of being part of a stolen scam fraud, our business has lost a large amount of money - the responsibility for this lies with us.  The fact that Square knew about it and didn't tell us for 4 days is where the problem lies.  At this point we were told about Risk Manager - well that's too late for us and now we want all Users to know.  Enable Risk Manager straight away and help us influence Square to make it mandatory at sign up for everyone's protection.  You can set you own alert criteria that suits your specific business needs.

I’ve reached out to our Risk Manager team for more information on where auto-enrollment lands in their development plans, and can confirm that the team is actively rolling out this feature to more products within Square. As the product coverage of Risk Manager increases, the team will look to auto-enroll Sellers in the future. I don’t have an exact timeline on when this will begin, but rest assured this is in the works.

I am so sorry to hear that this has happened to you and your business, Fortunately I have never had to deal with fraud or issues surrounding it.

I have just checked my account and somehow, I have switched it on by mistake but we have it setup already.

For those that don't know, you can go to Dashboard > Payments > Risk Manager

Again, sorry to hear that you got hit by these scammers and thank you for sharing this valuable information.
