Restrict “choose up to 3 to “choose up to 1”

I am having the worst time explaining this question but does anyone know how to restrict how many modifications you can make? So I only want to allow people to select one side and I don’t want it to confuse my employees and make them think that they can select more than one.

you can set this option per modifier set https://squareup.com/dashboard/items/modifiers.  there is a checkbox at the top right under options "customer can only select on option.
